True to its roots which are firmly embedded in Dakar history, the Africa Twin is as impressive as the desert itself. It’s an exceptionally comfortable tourer and a practical commuter equally good. Once you hear that call, it’s strong and agile enough to take you across the any challenging terrain of roads less travelled.
In 1986 the incredible NXR650 made its debut at the Dakar Rally and the dream of winning the most demanding o¬ff-road race in the world came true. The iconic machine continued its winning run in 1987, 1988 and 1989 as well. The experience and learnings we earned, went into the original XRV650 Africa Twin, which has now evolved into the legendary XRV750 Africa Twin.
Distinct Styling Cues
Africa twin bears a Twin Lamp LED Headlight, which ensures brighter and richer vision, when the rider is on a dark road. It also complies with the global norm of AHO (Always Headlight On). The LED also helps reduce the power consumption by 90% as compared to conventional Headlamps.
The introduction of TBW greatly expands the choices available for the rider to manage engine output, feel and rear wheel traction. The new HSTC system features 7 Levels – from Level 1 for aggressive riding off-road to Level 7 for maximum sense of security even on slippery, wet tarmac.
In DCT, 3 modes of operation are available. Automatic D mode is ideal for city and highway riding and achieves optimum fuel efficiency. Automatic S mode offers 3 levels of sportier riding and shifts down quickly when decelerating for extra engine braking. The MT mode delivers full manual control, allowing the rider to shift with the left handlebar trigger control buttons.
Engineered to Perfection
Equipped with Honda’s unique Dual Clutch Technology, the Africa Twin has a Parallel Twin – 999.11cc Engine with Max Power of 87.7 Bhp@7500 rpm and 93.1 nm Torque@6000 rpm.
While an Automated Clutch and Shift Operation System retains the direct acceleration feel of a manual transmission, the addition of a lithium-ion battery contributes to a 2.3 kg overall weight saving, further improving its off-road ability and durability.
Ergonomic seating Adjustment
A wide seat at the rear tapers to narrow at the front, which provides extra comfort when sitting plus an easy transition to standing when off-road. The seat can be raised or lowered through a range of 20 mm (840 mm-820 mm).
The riding modes are comprised of different levels of Power (P) and Engine Braking (EB). There are 3 levels of Power and Engine Braking available as well. These offer pre-set combinations of each parameter, suitable to different riding environments and scenarios: TOUR, URBAN GRAVEL A fourth mode – USER, allows the rider to set and save preferred combinations of Power, Engine Braking and HSTC levels.
The African Twin comes equipped with a G Switch, which responds to the unique needs of off-road riding, by providing half-clutch control that responds directly to throttle operation. This feature really comes into its own when negotiating big rifts in the road surface. It also has a unique incline detection feature, which keeps you in full control of any situation.
LED Winkers and Taillights
The African Twin has Dual-Headlights and Winkers, both LED. The Indicators are now enabled with an Auto Cancel Feature, wherein the system compares the front and rear wheel speed difference and cancels the indicators, relative to the situation.
Rally Style Rider Console
The Rally Style Rider Console of the African Twin has all the information arranged in definite clusters, making it easy for the eye to pin-point quickly at speed, or o¬ff-road. The negative LCD Display includes - Riding Modes, Speedometer, Tachometer, Fuel-Indicator, Gear Position, HSTC, Odometer, Trip Clock and ABS Indicator.
Superior Suspension Dynamics
Where the road ends, adventure begins. And that’s when you really appreciate the 45 mm Showa Forks. With the longest-in-its-class - 230mm stroke, these inverted cartridge type telescopic forks are fully adjustable with a good range of rebound and compression settings. The rear-shock, coupled with our proven o¬-road Pro-Link system and lightweight swingarm, has a class leading 220mm travel.
